[i]missbeasto posting in [i]iud_divas: Can I Vent?

My first Mirena period is killing me! LOL!

I have not had a period last more than 3 days in... probably 15 years. I feel very spoiled. I am now on day 7, and while it has tapered down into "heavy spotting" and not exactly a flow, I am still annoyed.

I also normally use a cup, but I am not comfortable doing that yet with the new IUD (I don't know if I will ever be, but I hope I work up enough courage to try...) so I am back to using tampons again for the first time in 8 years, and hooooo boy, I am so uncomfortable. I mean, I can't feel the thing in there, but I KNOW it's in there and I HATE removing it.

I suppose I should invest in a couple of cloth pads and liners now, huh?

So, while I know that this varies widely from person to person... how long did your periods take to stop being so damn long? I know that your experience will never be mine, but I feel like whining and discussing IUDs this evening so I can lose some of this frustration.

I am still 100% happy and satisfied with my Mirena though :)

[i]gem2889 posting in [i]iud_divas: I got my IUD inserted and...

It was so fast and I barely felt any pain I did take 2 Advil's and it helped out for the pain. I also had my period so I dont know if that helped with getting it to be placed. So far I feel good no pain, a bit of a headache but that is all I will update u ladies as the weeks go by.... Thanks for sharing your stories with me :)

hey ladies! so my doctor mentioned that I would need to be on my period, and they would give me some medicine to open me up for the IUD, but she mentioned something like being able to get my period to start because I am so irregular..is there something doctors can do to make your period start faster?! or did I just misunderstand that?

[i]dextra posting in [i]veggieslackers: mmmmmm soup

over the past week or two i've been saving peelings and trimmings off carrots, onions, garlic, celery, kale, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc.

i just put it all into a pot with a few bay leaves and thyme and am being driven kerrrrazay but the delicious smell!

i'm usually not the plan-in-advance type, but i'm so sick of the high msg and salt content in packaged veggie soup stocks, so i'm making my own to keep in the fridge.

i just remembered i've got some bread that's starting to dry, and some havarti and swiss slices in the fridge- sounds to me like french onion soup for dinner tonight! now the big question is, do i invest in a bottle of port or a cheap red wine to round out the flavour? money's super tight right now, but mmmmm the taste!

[i]cnscaevola posting in [i]naturalliving: Reader's Digest Homemade

I just made a post on my own journal about the Reader's Digest Homemade book I just got. I've got a couple questions on it from people who have the book and tried things from it. I saw the book mentioned in the comments of another post as being really useful. It turned out to be the kind of book I've been hunting for, and I bought it. I think it looks like a marvelous book and has all sorts of things that I'd like to try, but I'm not sure how well everything works.

  • How are the recipes themselves? Do they taste good or are they mediocre and need experimenting with?
  • How are the household/personal items? Do they work well or is it better to get some things than make them out of the books? Or does it depend on circumstances?
  • If you didn't like the book that much, can you say why? I'm just interested in getting a full spectrum of information, and I wholly understand why people would not like that half of it's cook book.
I just really like the book, and I have plans to use it to pieces--literally. I tried to check through the memories, but I didn't see anything.

[i]scandalouspinkk posting in [i]vegetarian: Questions on vegan nutrition

Hi, I've been vegetarian since July 2008, and a few weeks ago I decided to try out being vegan. Now I realise it was a pretty rash decision because I didn't read up properly on nutrition... so here I am! I've read some related posts but to be on the safe side I thought I'd share info on my meals, etc.

Thanks in advance! :) I appreciate any and all advice!

Is Walkers French Fries (ready salted) healthy? it says cooked with real sunflower oil on the package.

How about The Coffee Bean Iced blended drinks? It is mentioned in their website that the ones with NSA still contain sugar. Is it like natural sugar or what? Does anyone know?

Are there different levels of slacker-ness? (slackerosity? slackerism?) Is my slacker-ness different from yours? Such are the questions that flitted through what's left of my mind as I reveled in the discovery of this recipe when I had about 45 minutes before Hubby got home. Dear Mods, delete this if I've strayed too far outside the realm of your concept of veggie slacker with this recipe, but it was SO fast and easy I had to share!

[i]carmel24 posting in [i]iud_divas: Had Paraguard for 8 problem free months, now nonstop bleeding!

[info]carmel24
Hi Everyone,

I've been reading posts here for a while now but decided to join because I'm wondering if anyone has experienced my situation before.

I'm 25, never been pregnant.  I had Paragard inserted in April 2009.  Everything has been great.  No cramps, periods last 6-7 days( which is only 1-2 days more then my periods before Paragard).  December 9th i got my period as expected...and I haven't stopped bleeding
since.  The flow has varied but is mostly pretty light.  I just got back in town from the holiday and made an appointment with my doctor for this Friday.

I definitely don't want to have my Paragard removed.  Has this happened to anyone before, so long after insertion with no previous issues?  Should my cycle get back on track eventually?  Any advice?

Thanks,
Stacy

[i]a_strange_boy posting in [i]vegetarian: Questions from a newbie?!

Hi there, I recently turned vegetarian (after being a big meat-eater my whole life) for ethical reasons. Now though, it seems to have opened up a whole can of ethical worms and it's starting to take over my whole life! lol Anyway, I've got a couple of questions to ask, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is it safe to have protein shakes/bars as a big source of protein?! I try to make up most of my protein through other products like pulses/soya/quorn etc. but I'm used to working-out/going to the gym/doing yoga a lot and I find that I need more protein than I'm getting through normal foods. Is it safe for me to take protein shakes and bars throughout the week to help supplement this?!

Also, I take Veg*n Vitamin & Mineral food supplements from Holland & Barrett basically to make sure I'm getting enough/all the vitimins I need. However, I'm extremely worried that between them and my protein bars/shakes I'm getting WAYYYY too much of certain vitimins like B12. How unsafe is this?! is there anything I should really watch out for?!

And can anyone recommend, or link me to, any healthy recipes for tofu?

Thanks much!

[i]esmae posting in [i]vegancooking: Low sugar breakfast & snacks

Hello :)

Well I have a real trouble with sugar, I really crave it and as I have a bad immune system and my health problems I really want to cut down on my sugar consumption
However I am finding it very hard to find low sugar breakfasts and snacks as I have coeliacs disease as well, and it is soooo cold so I don't exactly fancy fruit salads, and raw veggies that I usually have in the warmer months
Thankyou for reading!

[i]fini_cula posting in [i]veganpeople: (no subject)

I decided to go vegan a week ago and I'm not going to lie, it is hard work at first. However I have found I have a lot of willpower and know exactly why i decided this in the first place which is the main help :)

Anyway I have a question regarding vegan baking, as to be honest even as a non-vegan i was a useless cook. I have made up a batch of dough for vegan cookies and i thought the recipe sounded like not enough so I made double. However it is LOADS! I tried some of it to bake a couple of testers and have successfully made the best cookies i have ever made, including past non-vegan cookies!

Would it be better to bake all the cookies or store the rest of the dough and bake it another time. I would rather not bake all the cookies as then I will be tempted to eat all of them. What would you guys recommend? I want it to last as long as possible...

thanks! x

[i]nakeeyark posting in [i]lushcosmetics: Riddles and Gifts.

I met the boyfriend while WWOOF-ing in Scotland this year, and he is coming to visit me in 10 days! Needless to say I am feeling simultaneously excited and kind of... barf-y, if that makes sense.

Anyway, we are exchanging Christmas presents when he arrives and I have been driving him batty by telling him just enough about his presents. Like so:

01. "This bit can be wrapped and is for you!" (Cosmetic Lad moisturizer)
02. "This bit can also be wrapped and is for you!" (Demon in the Dark soap)
03. "This bit can be wrapped and is for us!" (Wee Harry bath ballistic)
04. "This bit cannot be wrapped and is for you!" (A year's subscription to National Geographic)

So far he has no idea and that's all I've told him.

I hope he likes all of it; thanks to everyone for their suggestions as to what to get him from LUSH!

[i]heyhools posting in [i]iud_divas: 1st Paragard!

I had the Implanon for almost a year when I decided I had had enough with hormones.  I'd been on the pill roughly since I was 17 (I'm 25 now, NP) with one year off any birth control right before I got Implanon.  I almost got the Paragard at that time, but after worrying about expulsion I decided against it.  The doctor who inserted Implanon was really pushing for an IUD at the time, which I found promising.  She told me she gives it to young women who don't have children all the time.  After almost a year of horrible mood swings and unreliable periods I was ready to make the change.

My appointment was on 12/29/09 and I called the day before to see about getting a muscle relaxer prescribed to be, but they wouldn't do it.  I had to settle for 800 mg of ibuprofen instead.  I am a complete wimp when it comes to any pain down there, so I psyched myself out pretty badly.  Turns out I had good reason to.  The doctor took my Implanon out first, which was no problem after a numbing shot.  Then came the real fun.  This was easily the most pain I've ever felt.  Thankfully it lasted 15 seconds, max.  I'm not even sure if the doctor sounded me because she didn't explain what was happening (probably for the best as it turns out), but after I felt a sharp pain up in my belly button I yelped, and all of a sudden started crying.  I could tell she was trying her best to hurry and before I knew it it was over.  She could tell I was dizzy so she turned the lights down and told me to stay lying down until I felt like I could move.  The only really intense pain came directly during insertion, and I had pretty consistent heavy cramping the rest of the day.  I had taken the day off which was good because I know I would've been really uncomfortable at work, even just sitting there.  A heating pad really would have helped, and I regret not buying one before my appointment so I would've had it when I got home.  I'm wondering if some of my cramps came from the amount of ibuprofen I took, because I have a pretty sensitive stomach.

After the insertion I bled pretty heavily and consistently until 01/03, when it just seemed to stop.  I used tampons no problem.  I had sex post insertion for the first time on 01/02 and my boyfriend says he couldn't feel the strings at all.  My doctor didn't say anything about checking for the strings so I've decided not to.  I have an ultrasound scheduled for 01/09 for another issue (possible ovarian cyst) so I'll be able to see my new toy!

So far Paragard is proving to be as awesome as being off any birth control.  It may sound crazy but I now enjoy getting my period, especially after this past year where it was so erratic that I always wondered if I was pregnant.  One thing is I've noticed a metallic scent to my discharge, but that could just be in my head.  Oh, and that first day I was worried I was going to expel it by pooping too hard.  Sorry if that's too much info, but I'm sure someone out there can relate!

[i]xenax posting in [i]veganpeople: Jersey Shore

Well I never thought I would be writing about Jersey Shore in this community but here goes .

Does anyone watch Jersey Shore on MTV?  In case you haven't heard it is a  god awful reality show about Italian American stereotypes and kids who have way too much money and time and live in NJ by the beach.  I'm embarassed that I even watch this but it's kind of a train wreck.

So they always cook a traditional Italian dinner and on the latest episode they take a live lobster (it's claws were moving) and dump it into boiling water.  This girl named Snooki screams and runs out of the room shocked and horrified because she is very disgusted.

She refuses to eat it and says, "I don't hurt animals that animal was alive.  I'm a vet tech, I'm supposed to help animals not hurt them"
20 minutes later she comes home after going to the bar and screams about how much she wants sausage.  She has also been eating meat the entire time she has been on  the show.

Anyways, as stupid of a show as it is it really made me realize how many more people would eat less meat if they had to kill it themselves.  Also that because the names for meat are different (like sausage, bacon, etc.) some people seriously may not be educated enough to know that those are animals.  They may never have even questioned it and just eaten it all their lives kind of like robots.  I would hope that vet techs of all people would try to educate themselves about everything.

[i]wings_humming posting in [i]lushcosmetics: Coconut Deoderant Powder

I just really need to say how much I LOVE this product! I got it from my Lush Secret Santa (Aust/NZ forum) and it is AMAZING!

I have issues finding a good deoderant that will last throughout my busy day. I walk to and from work, I do heaps of exercise, and I go to belly dance classes (two and a half hours of sweating!) - and this stuff is with me through all of that. At the end of the day I still smell fresh, and to be honest, seriously yummy (mmm coconut), and I haven't had any sort of allergic reaction. Hip hip HOORAY! :D

Has anyone else had a wonderful experience with Coconut, or any of the Lush deoderants for that matter?

I was wondering for those of you who use Cynthia Sylvia Stout shampoo, what's the best conditioner to use with it? Also, have you used Lush's hair treatments before? Would you say they are worth the extra expense? Which one would you recommend for someone with curly, frizzy, thick and fine hair? Thanks in advance!

[i]mysweetshadoww posting in [i]_modified: Vertical lip piercings

I currently have the center of my lip pierced, its too low to have a ring, but to high to be a labret, basiccly the guy fucked me over, I've always loves vertical lip piercings, but I'm curious how it wouldnt affect my teeth. I definetly dont want the top ball fucking anything up or touching my front teeth at all, has anyone had this problem? I've put a huge ring in, and I can feel it rest on my teeth the whole time, I'm sure the vertical would be high and out enough not to do so, but I'd like to make sure...
